Image Size: 8 1/2" X 6 3/4". Framed Size: 23 3/8" X 21 5/8". This expressively engaging work depicts the powerful quality of the artist's etchings in concept and design. Drawn and engraved from 1810-1820, this work comes from a group of etchings Goya titled "Fatales consequencias de la sangrieta Guerra en Espana con Buonapart"--the terrible results of the bloody war in Spain against Bonaparte. First published 35 years after Goya's death by the R.I. Academia de Nobles Artes de San Fernando, Madrid, in 1863, this work is plate 74 from the 3rd State of the renamed Disasters of War series. The work is archivally framed with museum-quality Spanish-style black-on-gold stepped frame. The black and gold of the frame enhance contrast in this work, and the sculpture elements in the frame accentuate the linear qualities of the print. This work is completed with cream linen mattes and a sculpted gold inner fillet. It is fully documented, referenced, and includes complete provenance and COA. In perfect condition. ** There is also an appraisal from 2005, that comes with this Goya etching, from Masterworks Fine Art Inc, At that time it was appraised for $2,500.
